Having a life-long interest in drawing, Heidi Harner began studying watercolor painting while living in Colorado as a young woman. Since then her medium of choice is oil paints, doing both plein air and studio painting. Subjects of interest include God’s inspiring creation: horses, dogs, farm animals, and landscapes. Her appreciation and concern for animals was modeled to her by her mother, who helped launch a local Humane Society when they were living in Minot, North Dakota in the early 1980's. Her roots in the Great Plains of North Dakota have inspired her love of the land and for the horses who live there. She is fortunate to have become friends with the people at the Nokota Horse Conservancy, located in south central North Dakota on hundreds of acres of untouched native prairie. Heidi visits the conservancy for frequent photo opportunities and to learn as much as she can about the horses.

"Art and creativity is a passion I've had since childhood. My 'fun time' was grabbing a pencil and paper and getting lost in my drawings. I remember favoring art class above any other class in school. Each time, I would experience an excitement before we could get started; I always had a fire in my belly. I still get that feeling when I'm about to start a new painting. In college I studied graphic design, but I really wanted to be a fine artist. Later, when I became a designer, I was designing around art; I was putting someone's artwork into a page layout. I knew I wanted to be the one making the art. Funny how things work out, because now I make the art. When I am painting, especially plein air (outside on location), I feel connected to God. My soul is satiated and contentedly full. Painting is how I express myself, as cliche' as that sounds. I'm not much of a talker, but I want to say to you, through my paintings, that I find God's creation beautiful, and I want you to see what I see."

She resides in Lafayette, Indiana with her husband, Brad, and two amusing dogs named Joey and Lucy.
