Tim McClellan accidentally began his career in 1991 while working at a car dealership in Seattle after accepting a challenge to build a lodgepole bed for a girlfriend. The deal was, if he couldn't build it like the picture she'd seen, he would purchase the $1,200 bed for her.
Tim accepted the challenge and used old wood from a local logging company's slash and burn piles. She loved it. Her friend commissioned him to build another bed for a mere $250. She then commissioned him to furnish her entire house.
In 1993, while helping one of his nine siblings open a sandwich shop in Jerome, Arizona, an old copper mining camp, McClellan jumped at the chance to move his furniture business from his tiny shed to the expansive high school gymnasium.
He changed the name of his company to Western Heritage Furniture and for the next five years, McClellan found himself involved in a large amount of custom work. He considers this period in his life to be his "college education" where he taught himself several woodworking techniques.
Using the old wood from buildings in Jerome, Tim referred to his new line of furniture as "Ghostwood."
With so much history as well as its unique design and rich finish, the Ghostwood line was an immediate hit in the local retail market.
